My Father, My Friend
Robert F. Dattilo, Co-Owner
The Cardoni-Dattilo
Group, LLC
My Father, Joseph A. Dattilo was an amazing man
that I learned from in countless ways during my 30
years in our family business.   As a small boy
working with my brothers for Dad, and into
adulthood during my 13 years managing our
Dundee store, I marvelled at my Father's savvy in
capturing, and retaining as lifelong clients and
friends, so many satisfied customers.

When I consider our venture in workforce
development, the content of our programs, so
fundamental yet priceless in the value they bring to
careers and business, I admire that my Father was
a chief example of "success" as he applied these
skills each and every day of his life.

His initial contact with customers was so friendly,
and direct with a welcoming handshake and a "glad
to meet you",  eye to eye contact that made
customers feel they had known him for years.

Appearance of our product,  and of ourselves was
nothing short of professional and neat as
commanded by our Father,  coupled with being
absolutely polite, helpful and welcoming as so
masterfully demonstrated by my Dad each day.

Joseph A. Dattilo would not let a customer leave
the store without sampling the quality and
freshness of the produce we proudly displayed in
each of our stores.  If you had never  tasted a
melon before, his delightful descriptions alone
could make you feel like you just ate one, and
certainly want more!

These "rules", so basic and fundamental were
each integral in achieving the success that my
Father enjoyed as owner of Joseph A. Dattilo and
Sons Produce/Dattilo's Quality Fruits and
Vegetables.  Further, these rules were not an
"option" and were to be followed without question.

Whether an individual works in a manufacturing
plant, a business office, a retail store - no matter
the profession;  In every event,  "Dad's Rules
Apply."

A first job interview is a premium example of
achieving success through application of
fundamental professional skills in eye contact,
appearance, neatness, a personal interest in the quality of that
which you are presenting, whether it be a product, or yourself.
Professionalism completes projects, closes sales, increases
growth and most importantly increases the value of one's self,
not just in
business, but in every facet of life.

Just prior to losing my beloved Father, my friend, in the Fall of
2005, he gave me a card containing one simple handwritten line
stating  "I am very proud of you son."   Knowing full well the rigid
criteria for receiving what some may consider  "simple words"  I
cherish
his words forever, bringing forward into business and
daily life, the professional skills and courtesies so crucial to
success in business and in life.   Some things never change -
professionalism
and courtesy are two of those things.

You will find our programs are filled with venues and resources to
achieve great reward in professional fundamental skills,
impacting so many areas of business and social success.   This
article is a means for you to discover some of the diverse
background, resources and fuel behind our unique professional
development/wokforce retention programs.

Have a great day today.
